Video Restrictions in the YouTube Pod

Issue: Even though you can play the video on the YouTube site itself, the videos will not play in the YouTube Pod.

Reason: There are a few reasons for a video not playing:

1: Restricted Content. If you see a message like “This video contains content from (Music Label) and it is restricted from playback” or “This video is unavailable due to copyright restrictions,” this means that the video is under copyright and cannot be streamed to third party players; it can only be played on the YouTube site itself.

Workaround: There is no workaround for protected content as this is a restriction set on the YouTube side that eSync has no control over.

2: Location-Based Content. You will see a message: “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.” All videos playing through the YouTube Pod are first routed through our eSyncTraining proxies in order to streamline the viewing experience in the Pod itself. This means that videos that are locked down from playing in the US will not play even if you are in the country of origin. This is due to the proxy routing.

Workaround: Use of VPN software would allow you to get around this restriction if needed. Simply set the VPN to a US-based IP, and the content should play.

3: “This video cannot be played due to YouTube depreciation of Flash.” These are caused by YouTube’s deprecation of the Flash Player on its platform. Videos that are served to the CoSo YouTube player may not work depending on the format that it is served to us in. While we do make every effort to play all non-restricted videos, we are unable to ascertain which videos won’t play.

Workaround: At this time, anyone who has joined a Connect meeting in the Addin/Application or via the Flash Player (Classic view), YouTube videos will open and play in another browser tab. Full HTML5 support for the YouTube Pod is scheduled for Adobe Connect 10.8.

4: “For the current moment, this video is due to a security issue. We are working on it. Video has been removed from playlist.” A Security message is displayed if the YouTube video has been set to not allow Embedding.

Workaround: If the video is your content, follow these steps:

  • Go to your Video Manager.
  • Go to the video you want to turn off embedding for and click Edit.
  • Under the video, click Advanced settings.
  • Under “Distribution Options,” uncheck the Allow embedding checkbox.
  • Click Save changes

5: Copyright message: The YouTube content is being routed through a third-party service such as VEMO or an entertainment company’s website.

Workaround: There is no workaround at this time.

6: Issues with Live Videos. Due to Google’s Security Policy changes in December 2017, newer versions of the YouTube Pod do not support Live Videos.

Workaround: There is no workaround at this time.

7: Cannot Play Private Videos. Due to Google’s Security Policy changes in December 2017, you cannot play Private Videos in the YouTube Pod, even if you’re logged into your YouTube/Google account.

Workaround: There is no workaround at this time.
